In short: ISO has amended a range of management system standards, including ISO 9001, to require organizations to consider climate change.
ISO has published amendments to many of its management system standards, including ISO 9001:2015/Amd 1:2024, following the commitments of the London Declaration.
What changed?
Two statements were added to the clauses on the context of the organization:
- Clause 4.1 — the organization shall determine whether climate change is a relevant issue
- Clause 4.2 — a note that relevant interested parties can have requirements related to climate change
What organizations should do
Organizations should review their context analysis and interested-party requirements, decide whether climate change is relevant to their management system, and keep evidence of that decision. Auditors should include these considerations in their audits.
